-> Well, as far as Spinner getting more money, hell I'm all for it.
-> He took a character that anyone would have a hard time accepting
-> and made him lovable (true the writers also had a hand in it but I
-> don't think just anybody could have handled the part as well as he
-> did).
A lot of it was him. Look at him in Encounter at Farpoint. He had no
personality. Just about the first four or five episodes. He talked in a
flat voice, and made no hand gestures, and didn't change his face to
refelt his mood. Now he does. Did you know that originally, Spiner and
Colm Meaney (O'Brian) were originally going to be the other character.
(Meaney as Data and Spiner as O''Brian). This was the same with Denise
Crosby (Yar) and Marina Sirtus (Troi). Sirtus was looking forward to
being the Security Guard, then they changed her. ALso, her fake accent
is to cover up her British Accent, because the producers told her that
Stewart had a British accent, and they didn't want two Brits on the
bridge, so that it would look more racially spread out. Later, she
reflected on why she didn't say "Have HIM change his accent. He's
supposed to be French" :-)
-> As long as the show makes money I'm sure there'll always be
-> another season. It's the ST the movie syndrome... ...announce
-> that whatever you're doing is going to be the last and then
-> promptly start on the next one. I wouldn't be surprised to see a
-> ST VII movie with live footage of one of the stars dying of old
-> age.
The new Star Trek movies will be seeing Sulu and his ship more than Kirk
and the Enterprise. VI was supposed to see the handoff of the movies to
the TNG crew, who would love to do a movie (even while still producing
the show, according the Jonothan Frakes)
