Interesting, I don't have that problem connecting to CIS, but I DO have that
problem when connecting to Delphi. Do you use a CIS node, or Tymnet? I connect
to Delphi using Tymnet (when I use SprintNet instead, I don't have a problem).

I suspect that the problem is caused by the fact that Tymnet sends its initial
message at 1200 baud (thus the string of odd characters, and lots of 'x's).
This generates a framing error, and I'm wondering if the serial driver on the
MM/1 is handling this error properly (could also be some idiosyncrasy of the
built in serial port on the 68070).
