Bob,

I take it you hit a ^C to start your login process. You might want to try just
a . This should get you a HOST prompt. Answer that with either CPS or
CIS and then proceed normally.

Why all this bother? When you logout, you'll be dropped back to the HOST
prompt.That should end any 'clipping'. Just respond OFF at the HOST prompt to
end the session.
