It actually makes sense.  Going from one extreme to another can
sometimes be destructive.  Put a person in a hot sweaty gym and throw
him outside in the snowing cold and there's a good chance he'll get
sick.  Another example is that if you light a fire in a metal bucket,
then hose it off with cold water, the sudden change will cause the metal
to actually rip apart (the rapid contraction and expansion weakens the
metal).
