Pete,

A> No one dies. I've done a 'procs' and both 'shell' and the process are
sitting (sleeping, I think). Hmmm, maybe I'll try just sending a wakeup signal
to the shell and see what happens. Methinks that it has something to do with
the closes not getting passed along properly.

B> I have the popen() code for the OSK Unix library. It follows the same
procedure as I do, but it's a bit more complicated since it has overhead for
mulitple paths (I just need one). Maybe I should try it and see if there is any
difference. BTW, the popen() forks the 2nd process via a shell.
