for your above scenario where the mage walks in. and does that mass
attack. ok he comes in,( i am a mystic btw), the mystic is proabably
resting with TROL, witchy has high resistence and ranger has regen
spell.  So mage comes in, everyone sees the 'moves to attack' and they
all attack him. in about 1 round that mage is running or dead because if
he fails his 2nd round of spells he is dead for SURE vs those 3 classes.
 As for mage vs priest. a mage is more for pvp then a priest,  a priest
who has godstrike and godheal is awesom, and is a great PARTY asset.
you cant expect to have a priest be given more powerful spells and if
you remove a mages spells(and yes some of his spells are WAY powerful,
dfir) then he will be worthless
