Hi, Kevin.
Yes, I'm from Montreal. The TT computers can be seen here since around
early September in computers shows, but is available on market since this
month.
In recent european magazines, Atari TT article reviews specified the
following hardware as standard in a plain TT computer:
- 68030-33 used at 32MHz
- 68882-33 used also at 32MHz
- 8M bytes of RAM divided in two banks:
- 4M bytes of ST compatible RAM, 80 nsec, 64 bits wide
- 4M bytes of TT RAM, 100 nsec, 32 bits wide
- TOS 3.0.1 (512K bytes of ROM)
- 128K cartridge port, ST compatible
- graphics resolution same as ST plus (palette of 4096 colors):
- 320 X 480, 256 colors
- 640 X 480, 16 colors
- 1280 X 960 (monochrome)
- 2 stereo RCA ports
- internal speaker
- 2 MIDI ports, ST compatible (ACIA6850)
- 4 serials ports:
- 2 RS232 ports, MFP68901 (ST compatible)
- 2 85C30 hi-speed SDLC ports
- one network LAN port, LocalTalk compatible
- one DMA ACSI port ST compatible
- one DMA SCSI port
- one internal SCSI 48M bytes hard disk, 28 msec
- one 3.5" drive, 720K bytes, ST compatible
- one external floppy port
- one VME A24/D16 connector
- one MC146818 real time clock
Too bad they don't have a 1.44 3.5" drive. To have more or less memory
means a special configuration for this computer (like the one I saw in store
with 4M bytes of RAM). In reviews, speed gain over a standard ST computer
varies from 200% to 9786%, depending of the application.
ATX, an UNIX System V release 4 with X Windows, OSF Motif and so on, is due
in March 91. But then a 80M bytes hard disk and more memory will be necessary.
I had the idea that a 68030 CPU can emulate a 68000 CPU without problems.
Thanks for the note.
Merry Christmas.
