memcpy(), unlike strcpy(), doesn't null-terminate the destination. strcat()
wants pointers as arguments, so you needed strcat(whatever, ""), but...strcat
itself looks for a null terminator to know where to start copying, so you can't
use it to force null termination. (Sort of a catch-NUL. :-)
