William -

Basically, it the descriptor _says_ it's a floppy, it's a floppy. That's as
sure as you can be. What other assurances do you want/need? Of course if it HAD
to be a floppy for some obscure reason, you could write some low level nasty
code to watch the index pulse LED from the disk bus, but that's incredibly
ugly. I guess I fail to see the need? Care to explain why it's so important?
Half of the beauty of os9/unix is that all devices and files look pretty much
the same. Looks like you're trying to head the other way.
