Not sure I understand the question. If you use SS.FRZ, I believe it's your
responsibility to know what the disk's parameters are before you attempt to
read it, and set them accordingly in the path yourself (using SS.OPT).

The business about the name being external slipped right by me... care to
rephrase & reask?
