I'd go for  Half-Ogre... =) Raise Health to 100 or 95
whichever that neato bonus is at, at first level. Then work on intellect
till level 20 hehh you'll have 100, then get your wisdom up to 80, and
last but not least raise your agility... My god you should see this
Half-Ogre mage on my board, he can fight good as all with his dragonclaw
staff and he can cast spells mad. He's level 38 i believe... This dude
is phat.  I made a level 15 half-ogre mage myself, and it was pretty
good. I barely ever failed Sunbolt and all those other spells, i had
intellect to somewhere... i believe around 80, but it coulda been around
70 i'm not sure was long time ago.  The +1 hp per level, and all the HP
at lower levels makes the mage easy to get up. You would have to play by
hand until you get Lbol at level 8 or so though because its kinda hard
to use fjet and script... Lvl 28 ranger should have a hell of a lot of
exp so you shouldnt have to worry about that.
   I would get Runed Robes, Runed Cowl, Obsidian Runestaff, any cloth
sandals or something, the winged sandals would be dumb for a mage but if
you have the money go for it, adamantite bracers, a good ring, i'm not
sure what level the pearl ring is but get it when you can... Get the
DraconClaw Staff and all those Black Silk items from the quickling lord
whenever you can, i think they'rre level 20 or 25... You gotta be able
to find some other good eq somewhere int he tower
Spells... you'l have all those defence spells,
Blur - +1-5 ac depending on your normal ac
MageShield - +18 or +10 or something ac, it's nice ac
Ethereal Shield - Ya dont need that, dont even buy it cuz MageShield
cancels it out and MSHI is better anywyas
ShadowForm - Really cool thingy that makes you not visible to other
players
magic Armour - Gives +1 toughness or whatever it's called, 0/+1 ac
the highest attack spell you'l have is Sunbolt which hits in the 40-50
range, costs 8 mana...
