I disagree.
I have a lvl 17 ranger, and he has had a katana, witchwood spear, and an
elven war-spear.  The war-spear sucks if you can have the WW.  I found
the witchwood to be better until about lvl 15.  It swings better.  I
still have the witchwood, but I may get a katana again soon.  The
witchwood is lighter than the katana/main combo, which is nice as well.
I average about 40 damage a round with the witchwood, Haven't a clue
what with the katana
