It's easy enough Scott.

 char str[12];
 FILE *out;

 strcpy(str,"temp.XXXXX");
 mktemp(str);
 out=fopen(str,"w");

The above creates a file with a name such as temp.5 or temp.3 depending on what
the process id is.
