Larry,
  If you look in your dd/defs directory at the file stdio.h you will find
something like the following:

   /*  the following are fake pointer variable defintions  */
   #define stdin    (&_iob[0])
   #define stdout   (&_iob[1])
   #define stderr   (&_iob[2])

You can then use any as a path or FILE *
