Hi Simon,

What else is your client doing in his program?  Writing to a slow disk drive,
responding to other instruments, or ?

How is your instrument connected (serial?) and what kind of data traffic are we
talking about?

Also, which 680x0 and at what speed?

What language is his program written in?

Sounds kind of flaky that he'd blame the OS in this case.  Its overhead is near
nil for most things.
