Glen,

Nope.  The CoCo has that ROM-character mode;  the MM/1 (and ST and Amiga and a
lot of others) just have graphics modes where the characters have to be
explicitly drawn.

With extra circuitry a ROM text mode could be added, but there's no plans for
it, as far as I know.
