UG stands for "user group".  Shouldn't matter what window you merge fonts into;
SCF snarfs the escape codes on the way out and stores the font data away.  You
should be very sure that the font group and number your program asks for
matches that of one of the fonts you merged, or you'll get the Morse code
consistently! 

(That's the voice of experience speaking about that last bit...Sigh.)
