Addendum to all said previously...

email allows you lots of access on Internet.  There are several ftp (file
transfer protocol) sites that respond to email requests, the various internet
mailing lists, and such.

A good book that explains a lot of what's going on is THE WHOLE INTERNET USER'S
GUIDE AND CATALOG by Ed Krol.

It goes into a fair amount of detail on what you can do with email.

There are a couple of commercial Internet access companies in Dallas that
provide customers with a window on the net, too, if you want that info.
