This happened to me as well. My set up was as follows:
Drive C: 250Mb 
Drive D: 105Mb

Whaen I went to install it on D:, it puked as you mentioned. I finally 
installed it on my other system, on a 250Mb Drive C:, and it insatalled 
without any problems.

I replaced a1 and a2 as well.
