i absolutely agree there with that gripe... especially if hpt is to be used
with a message base backing a news server... renumbering can cause untold
headaches when the users' news readers don't know about the message numbers
having changed...

can't say that i've heard of that one... perhaps it is easier to fix sqpack
or even to fork it to a new name and then fix that one so that purging,
packing and renumbering are all separate operations... perhaps a name like
hptmsg or hptmaint or hptpack?
