Actually, IBM practically gave Microsoft what later became "DOS".
 What became DOS, was originally written by IBM.

Bite Gates and company bought it from IBM for around $20k (I think in the
early 80s).  What a fantastic investment that was!  At the time, IBM was
not interested in software - only hardware and large mainframes.
