Ice diving is something that every diver should experience at least once. If
done correctly, Ice diving is one of the safest ways to dive there is. I
have been ice diving for 6 years now and everytime I am amazed at its beauty.
If you think about, once you tuck and go down, it is just a regular dive.
The beauty comes on your ascent back to the hole. If it is a perfectly sunny
day, the rays from the sun break through the ice and spread across the water.
It is also amazing to hear the ice crack. The water temperature is usually
warmer than the surface due to the fact that it has been protected from the
elements because of the ice. In our club, both divers wear a harness
underneath their BC. They are then shackled to a rope and have a tender
each. The safety diver is harnessed and shackled as well with his own tender
ready. In case of an emergency, signals with the rope communicate a problem.
The tenders then act accordingly and return you immediately back to the hole.
In other words, you would have to commit suicide and physically cut the rope
in order to not return to the hole.
I would truly like to know the reason for your comment. Did you have a bad
experience??????
