I was wondering what caused it exactly. Nothing else on the board is
damaged, but this resistor looks like it had a couple of amps running
through it for some time. The board underneath it (but NOWHERE else) is
crispy-fried. Luckily no tracks run under it, or they'd have been toasted
off.

Well, after some experimenting, it seems to work fine and autobauds
downwards too, both answer and originate. Splendid.
