subject: Cables & Skin Effect

A very good afternoon to you John
Op 20 Mar 97 08:52 you wrote something about *Cables & Skin Effect*...
JA> The cables I replaced the Monster Calbes with made a difference
JA> that was more than just noticable. It was a big enough difference that it
JA> made me want to part with $200 (US), (an astounding feat), when compared
to
JA> two other big name cables and my old ones. Whether it was skin effect,
he
JA> place where the copper was mined, the insulation, etc., I cannot say. I
can
JA> say I love the sound of them and that "on my system, they were a good
JA> investment".
Right John...that's the only thing that really counts and that's where you
did it for: Long lasting music pleasure....don't let anyone tell you what you
like to hear....you know best what you like....
JA> As for stripping the multistranded/ individually insulated, cables
JA> and doing any soldering.....not me! I bought them terminated, and
JA> terminated with spade lugs they shall stay.
Lucky you :)
JA> I wondered about that same thing when looking at the article explaining
JA> their build. I wouldn't dare think of it.
Me neither...but on the other hand I think I would like to try....see what
comes out ;)
JA> In many ways I am at a disatvantage in the higher end
JA> stereo comparisons, etc. The few high end dealers we have in the Phoenix
JA> area have something far less than great audition facilities. Most are
ade
JA> for cool looks and have terrible acoustics.
Lots of lights and buttons on it I persume :))
JA> Most are either huge or closet size. I have yet to see one out here with
JA> real life room sizes. Most also, sign on for certain brands and in
JA> discussions...everything but those brands are crap.
....I know...understandable because they want to sell something but
oh..how I hate it....b.t.w. most of them are poorly informed and are really a
laugh (or rather...a cry) when they talk about specs....
JA> That makes shopping a real pain rather than a pleasure.
Yeah....i know....
JA> It also makes mail order more attractive. Many of the mail order dealers
JA> here offer a 15 to 30 day no questions asked return policy. It allows me
JA> to try things in my home and really see what I will be getting.
Home is the only place where you can judge the equipment....I appreciate your
points of view highly....thanks for your reply John...
