Akela Calls is a Regional gathering of Cub Scout Leaders. It occurs about
every 4 years at East Stroudsburg State University. This year it is the
weekend of June 10-11-12. If your local council doesn't have the info (it
was mailed in Dec.), I'll send you the registration flyer. National Camping
School has 2 areas. The Boy Scout area is run by National and is a week long
course. The Cub area is Regional and is a full 3 day course, i.e. Fri. a.m.
to Sun. p.m. I know this year it as at Heritage (my Council) and at Alpine
in NJ. Boy Scout covers about everthing and is for Camp Dirs., Prog. Dirs.
and Area Dirs. (waterfront, rifle, scoutcrafts, etc.). Cub is for Resident
and Day Camp Dirs. and Prog. Dirs. and some area Dirs. Generally if a Cub
resident camp has a waterfront, the area direstor would attend one of the
National Boy Scout courses. Cub is mainly administrative and program. I'm
the Day Camp Program Director for our District.
I've retired from training and am now ADC Cubs. Of course I'm still
CM - just celebrated my 10th Blue & Gold.
