I used to think somewhat that way, while I was going through my high-school
spurt of fluffy bunny liberalism. Then what I got taught anyway by a friend
of the family who fortunately didn't share my opinion of the time quite
literally saved my life and the lives of my comrades on numerous occasions.
Needless to say, the experience gave me a much firmer grasp of reality than
was theretofore the case.
Actually, my question was only partly about that specific topic; I also
wished to help make the point (in connection with another topic) that there
are _no_ circumstances under which the intentional suppression of knowlege
can be seen to be beneficial either to the one so denied or to the community
of which he/she is a part.
