Not being smart enough to do the math and not being smart enough to realize
the implication that the future is as fixed and unchangeable as the past
are quite different things.

The thing that gets me is people understand and accept this, how many times
have you heard someone say they wished they could go into the future and
get next weeks lotto numbers then come back and buy the winning ticket?
They get it, they understand the idea and on some level even agree with it,
till you try and spell it out for them along with all that it means, then
all of a sudden nobody wants to hear it and it can't possibly be.
