Interesting timeline, Garry. I think I'm going to borrow liberally from it=
to give it the
Steve-Trek take.

>c. 10,000,000,000 B.C. The Pre-epoch The first formation of nebulous=20
"life" structures. Space amebas, deep krrakan, warp whales etc.
Early=20 forms are thin and not very bright. But life is life.
The galaxy formed into basically its present form as a barred spiral galaxy=
14 billion years ago.
The first half of its life, to 6 billion years ago, was generally lifeless.=
The galaxy consisted of
hydrogen and helium and not much more, but it took billions of years of
sup= ernovas and
other matter-creating events to produce the heavier elements. Early
planet= s were all gas
giants or protostars or icy comets of frozen hydrogen. The earliest life
a= ppeared in such
planets towards the end of the "Pre-First-Epoch," and beyond some
simple mi= crobes or
prions and other "pre-life," some higher-order life appeared.
These were b= asically simple
lifeforms, colonies of cells that formed a sheet that floated in the upper
= levels of the
atmosphere. Some might have moved into space to produce "space
amoebas" (i= n Steve-
Trek, no form of life ever developed a biological warp drive, the rules I
u= se simply don't
allow it, so don't look for any "warp whales").

>c. 6,000,000,000 B.C. The First Epoch of life in the Galaxy. The first=20
Epoch will have six generations and last for 2-3 billion years.=20
> An unknown race places an Artifact on a planetoid around a G5 star=20
that will become a white dwarf named "Xanadu's Star" in the
24th=20 century. Advanced stasis fields will keep the artifact intact
until=20 that time and beyond.
Is "Xanadu's Star" a Garry-Trek reference?
> An Unknown Race creates/activates/discovers, the "Guardian of=20
Forever". Numerous civilizations will rise and fall around this=20
artifact/entity.
The first epoch of life appeared 6 billion years ago. By this time, approx= imately
five percent of the galaxy in the habitable zone had conditions were suffic= ent
heavier elements had appeared to develop rocky, Earth-like worlds. The pri= mal
chemistry of life appeared on these planets, although in many cases, this l= ife
did not amount to much and persisted as microbes, or at best algae, until t= he
star heated up enough to boil off the oceans. Only on a small number of th= ese
planets did evolution proceed to sentient forms. Very, very few artifacts = built
by these early races survived, although the Guardian of Forever is one of t= hem.
Structures built on any planets other than those around red dwarfs would be
destroyed as the stars themselves moved off the main sequence, became red
giants and then white dwarfs. Because most warp-capable life in this Epoch
was alone in its region of space, they had a tendency to form far-flung
emp= ires
(or so it is believed, based on very skimpy evidence).
Notes: no Steve-Trek references to any structures from the First Epoch exc= ept
for the Guardian, but there is always future potential.
The galaxy does not have life throughout, but only in a ring from roughly 2= 0,000
to 40,000 light years from the centre. Regions beyond that are too light i= n the
heavy elements to form suitable planets, although some First-Epoch or pre-F= irst-
Epoch life may exist there (story ideas!). Regions towards the centre have=
too
much radiation to allow life to advance.

>c. 4,000,000,000 B.C. End of the First Galactic Epoch. No known races=20
remain from the first Galactic Epoch. It is speculated that the=20
Organians or the Hamon might be from this time.
The end of the First Epoch was 4 billiion years ago. The epoch ended
mostl= y because
the vast empires built up by the earliest races decimated the other planets=
with
potential for developing sentient life in the restricted zones where life
a= ppeared. Resources
were not sufficient to sustain these empires. It is believed that the
Orga= nians evolved
into non-corporeal form in this period, and the Solarians might have had
co= rporeal form
as well.
>c. 4,000,000,000 B.C. - 3,000,000,000 BC The first interim. Little=20
life arises in the galaxy during this period.
The First Interim period lasted from four billion to two billion years.
Th= e average number of
warp-capable lifeforms at any one time dropped to less than one, although
n= ew areas of
sufficient concentration of heavier elements was developing. The only race=
of note was
the Keto, a non-humanoid, eighteen-limbed creature that left its calling
ca= rd on planets in
several widely-dispersed red dwarf systems. The language has never been
tr= anslated,
and "Keto" comes from the fact that in their writing system, the
first four=
characters in the
first monument found look like those four letters. It has been speculated
= that something
from the Keto civilization led to the Preservers.

>c. 1,000,000,000 B.C. The galaxy-wide Slaver Empire is destroyed when=20

stasis box and loaded on a transport as the Slavers close in on the=20
Ticup home world. The Ticup see this as a gift to future generations.
> End of the second Galactic Epoch.
The Second Epoch lasted from 3 billiion to 1 billion years ago, and
consist= ed of three
generations. Little is known of the first generation, although scattered
a= rtifacts have
been found. The second generation, lasting from 1.5 to 1.2 billion years
a= go, saw the
rise of the Slaver Empire. Some believe that the lifeforms that became the=
Bajoran
wormhole aliens were corporeal in the first generation, and that the end of=
the first
generation was marked with the construction of the wormhole network.
By the start of the Second Epoch, approximately thirty percent of the galax= y in the
inhabitable zone have conditions suitable for life, although these regions
= are generally
centered around open clusters of like-aged stars. Where suitable planets e= xisted,
life did arise, but on average, only one sentient, warp-capable
civilizatio= n appeared in
each of these locales. These races found the other planets in the immediat= e area
to have primitive life only, and were terraformed. In some cases, powerful=
empires
were built up. At the beginning of the second generation, 1.5 billion year= s ago, a
race appeared and built the transwarp conduits as a means to move readily a= bout the
galaxy. This unknown race was the first of the galaxy-wide empires, althou= gh they
had to subjugate very few races. Once this race departed, the Slavers move= d in and
took control. They also established a galaxy-wide empire, enslaving more
r= aces. They
enhanced the transwarp conduits and became what many regarded as the most
technologically-advanced race that ever existed. They also were the first
= to be able
to replicate hypermatter in quantity, and some believe that ultimately, all=
hypermatter
of higher order than dilithium inthe galaxy was created by them-and the
bes= t dilithium
was also created by the Slavers. The Slavers often stole technology create= d by
the client races and added it to their own. The race was violent, and saw
n= othing of
wiping out entire worlds when there were revolts. The Slavers eventually c= onquered
prewarp civilizations, and were so worried about losing their dominant
plac= e that they
began to annihiliate life on a planet even before it achieved any kind of
s= entience.
1.2 billion years ago, the Second Generation came to an end when the Ticups=
revolted.
This was one of the most advanced races under the Slavers, and they had
dev= eloped some
of the Slaver technology. They also developed technology that would
disrup= t the transwarp
conduits that the Slavers relied upon to move personnel and ships around
(S= laver population
at this time was 100 trillion, the largest number of any one race in
galact= ic history). With
the transwarp conduits down, revolts broke out on many planets, and the
Sla= vers were driven
from these worlds. Once the empire started to collapse, it went down
fairl= y quickly, but the
destruction that followed doomed many of the worlds.
The Slavers, the Ticups and the other civilizations from the Second
Generat= ion left artifacts.
These races were obsessed with the idea of leaving momentos that would
exis= t forever,
and so built what became known as the Slaver stasis boxes, which were
scatt= ered about
the galaxy. By current times, very few of these boxes remain to be found. =
Most of the
planets inhabited by races from this period are no longer inhabitable as
th= eir suns have
heated up, but some artifacts remain.
Average number of warp-capable lifeforms at any given time (galaxy-wide): = 50-100
The Third Generation of the Second Epoch was very short, lasting from 1.1
t= o 1 billion years,
and at the end of this period, about fourty percent of the inhabitable
sect= ions of the galaxy
was suitable for life. The one dominant race to appear in this period was
= the Progenitors,
the first truly human form of life. They acquired knowledge from the
Slave= rs and the Ticups
and were able to re-establish the transwarp conduit network, although they
= did not expand
or enhance it. In fact, the network was degrading (because the galaxy is
n= ot a static
structure). The central location of the Progenitors has not been
establish= ed, although it is
believed that explorers will recognize it when they see it. This race of
b= eings expanded
throughout the galaxy, taking advantage of the decline in life at the end
o= f the Epoch to establish
a presence throughout the galaxy by colonization rather than conquest. The=
Progenitors
were well aware of the history of the Slavers and the Ticups, and decided
t= hat their own
statement of galactic immortality would be to identify promising planets
th= roughout the
galaxy, including the homeworlds of all the known humanoid races, and seed
= those planets
with DNA so that life would evolve towards humanoid norms (basically,
uprig= ht stance, two legs,
two arms, the head on top, despite a variety of lifeforms from which this
e= volved). To guide and
control the evolution, the Progenitors created the Preservers, a kind of
hi= ve mind-artificial-
viral-parasitical lifeform that would persist intermittently on the various=
planets, guiding life
along the Progenitor game plan. In time, virtually all Class-M planets
wou= ld evolve towards
humanoid life, and non-humanoid life would arise primarily on non-class-M
p= lanets. By 1
billion years ago, the transwarp conduits had degraded to the point of
usel= essness, and
many Progenitor groups were isolated. These died out as the planets became=
uninhabitable,
and the beings died out, although some second and third generation races
pe= rsisted into
the Second Interm

>c. 844,000,000 B.C. The Third Epoch The !rzzz arise. This insect hive=20
mind never learns the secret of warp drive, but great hive ships are=20
sent out into the void at sub light speed to seek what can be found.=20=20
The life of the individual is meaningless. The !rzzz encounter another=20
group, the Tzenn, a reptile race that does have FTL drives. They engage=20
in a centuries long war of genocide that neither will win. A third race=20
the Metrons is occasionally caught up in this drawn out battle. It=20
gives them a wariness against neighbors.
The Second Interm lasted from 1 billion to 600 million years ago. Because
= the conduit network
fell into disrepair and knowledge of it was lost, the races that did appear=
in this period were
confined to small regions of space. The era of galaxy-wide empires was
ove= r. This was also
the last period of significant non-humanoid life. The Metrons appeared in=
this period.
The Third Epoch started 600 million years ago and continues through the
pre= sent time. Six
generations are recognized, although the latter ones could be considered
lo= calized. The
first generation actually covers most of te period, from 600 million to 150=
million years ago.
Second and third-genertion civilizations from the Metrons find and
rehabili= ate the transwarp
conduits, but only twenty percent of the original system remains
functional= . Where the hubs
were located where conditions for life were suitable, powerful interstellar=
political entities
appeared. The First Generation was marked by large-scale civilizations
loc= ated around
the hubs, and the conflicts that resulted from these groups encountering
ea= ch other. All of these
major groups were humanoid. The Preservers also had their programming
modi= fied (or maybe
it evolved) so that they began to remove samples of civilizations from
vari= ous planets before
that civilization would be destroyed either by another, or the planet
itsel= f would be destroyed.
Approximately eighty percent of the inhabitable sections of the galaxy had
= conditions suitable for
life. The Third Epoch has also been called the Epoch of Humanoid Life.

> The Preservers are believed to begin opperations about this time.=20=20
The Preservers seed various planets with carbon-based, predominately=20
humanoid, life. They take a special interest in the peoples of Earth=20
(having also transplanted members of the dinosaur family, saving them=20
from extinction) and throughout the centuries establish duplicate=20
"Earths" populated by relocated Humans or humanoids. Some of
these=20 species are genetically altered and unique societies are formed,
many of=20 which are computer-dominated, while others are given extended
life-spans=20 or some such outstanding abilities. Native American Indians
and 13th=20 Century Germans are two such examples of races transplanted
from Earth. =
=20
The former group will be seeded on the planet Amerind (Miramanee's=20
world) and the latter on a planet deep within a deadly stellar=20 cluster.
The latter sounds like something from one of the Trek novels. In Steve-Tre= k,
the Preservers also transplated a Sumerian group.
> The Preservers may be responsible for seeding the region which=20
would later become the Interstellar Concordium Trusteeship Territory.=20=20

The Third Epoch, Second Generation lasted from 100 million to 50 million ye= ars
ago. An unknown race known as the Builders appeared, and they left their
marks in truly massive construction, including such things as Dyson

,
artificial planets and Ringworlds. Little is known about them, however, as=
their
constructions were appropriated by other races and made their own.

engineers of macrostructures including, dysons spheres, world sized=20
space stations, engineered star systems and "natural" looking
planets.=20=20 Then will continue to build in this Galaxy and beyond by
contract and=20 for their own reasons. They are a Third Epoch, second
generation people.
> The Iconiaons make their first appearances They are called "Demons=20
of Light and Darkness" by those that remember them. They are
typlified=20 by adaptable computer technology and an intersteller
transporter system,=20 parts of which still work in the 24th century of
Earth.
I believe this is far too early for the Iconians.
The Third Generation lasted from 50 million to 20 million years ago. The t= ranswarp
conduits had fallen completely out of use, so the races that arose and the
political groups they formed were localized. Some of their edifices
remain=
,
and some of the groups at the tail end of this generation have left suffici= ent
remains that their planets are archaeological sites. At the same time, wit= h
the number of warp-capable species increasing, planets are increasingly bei= ng
reused. A planet might have had three or four or more habitations by diffe= rent
racial groups.
The original race of the Trendorians discovered the wormhole network and
es= tablished
colonies at each of the terminal regions. Many artificats have been found = at these
planets. The Preservers continue to have their programming/mental
abiliite= s evolve,
and absorb and adapt the pre-Trendorian language into the Preserver Code, a=
method
developed to allow species arriving on separate worlds to communicate each = other
once contact had been made. The predecessor race to the El Aurians discove= r
the transwarp conduits and make about five percent of the original system u= seful
again. They establish a powerful presence in a region of space about
10,00= 0 light years

and to=20 worship the idea of life itself. During the life of the race
they will=20 make a paradise of their home world, terraform two other
planets within=20 their system, carve inside-out worlds into airless moons
and develop=20 anti gravity cities that float in the clouds of the gas
giants. What=20 they will not do is develop warp theory or travel. The
Gifted never=20 leave their home system.
Garry-Trek again? They're not in Steve-Trek.
c. 5,000,000 B.C. The gifted sensing that their race is nearly run=20
throw the bulk of their resources into building a seedship to spread=20
life throughout the galaxy. The Gifted have never met another race, but=20
they still have hope they can either reach them or make them. The=20
seedship carries the histories of The Gifted, and holds places for the=20
records of others. It's primary function is to drop the seeds of life=20
onto near life worlds. The Gifted carefully plot the seedship's course=20
to swing through as many stars like their own as they can. In the=20
course of it's travels the seedship will seed a dozen worlds and pick up=20
the records of 137 other races.
The Fourth Generation lasted from 18 million to 5 million years ago. Many
races rose, and formed empires and federations and other alliances. One of
these races was the Hebitians. They discovered the wormhole network, and
settled on various planets near the terminal points. The Hebitians
influenced both Cardassian and Bajoran societies (properly,
"Hebitian" refers to a second-generation group, but the term is
used for the original race). Another Hebitian offshot group forms a
powerful empire in the Gamma Quadrant.

The Fifth Generation of the Third Epoch (in the Alpha Quadrant) spanned 4
million to 1 million years ago. Some have called this the peak of life in
= the galaxy,
as it is believed that star formation has begun to decline and that less he= avier
elements will become available. Most of the dominant species were humanoid=
,
as the Preservers continued to do their thing. As in the other generations=
, the
various species explored space, exploited resources, settled on planets whe= re
life had yet to appear or where life had once been, formed alliances and fo= ught
wars. The El Aurian predecessor groups controlled the transwarp conduits,
expanding the network to ten percent of its original extent. Late in the

they formed the First Empire. El Aurian ships may have visited Earth in

Extensive remains have been found, and due to the spread of the Preserver C= ode,
many of the inscriptions and texts have been translated.

The Sixth Generation of the Third Epoch started 600,000 years ago and conti= nues
to the present day. It is marked by the rise of several large-scale groups=
in
the Alpha Quadrant (or more particularily, Known Space). The first of thes= e
were the predecesor group to the Orions They appeared around 600,000 years=
ago
and controlled most of the space. They created a variety of genetically mo= dified
subservient races, including a "green" slave race and a
"brown" warrior rac= e and
a "gray" administrator and science race. In time, the brown race
became th= e Vegans,
the gray race the "true" Orions, the greens remained slaves and
the origina= l race
died out. The First Orion Empire flourished about 600,000 years ago, and t= hey
were supplanted by the Tkon Empire. Unlike most other empires, the Tkon us= ed
client races to administer and control their empire, and they did not from
= much in=20
the way of colonies, basically just outposts. The Tkon extensively modifie= d their
own star system to create inhabitable planets, and attempted to replace the= ir aging
star with a new one. That failed, and the star became a nova, destroying
l= ife in the
system. The heart of the Tkon Empire destroyed, the client races rose up a= nd
destroyed the rest of the empire. Some ruins at Tkon XI and scattered outp= osts
remain.
A sequence of other races followed, including the Second Orion Empire (run = by the
grays, considered by them to be the true Orion Empire) which flourished 300=

10,000,000,000 B.C. The Pre-epoch The first formation
of nebulous "life" structures. Space amebas,
deep krrakan, warp whales etc. Early forms are thin and
not very bright. But life is life.
The galaxy formed into basically its present form as a barred spiral
galaxy
14 billion years ago.
The first half of its life, to 6 billion years ago, was generally
lifeless. The galaxy consisted of
hydrogen and helium and not much more, but it took billions of years of
supernovas and
other matter-creating events to produce the heavier
elements. Early
planets were all gas
giants or protostars or icy comets of frozen hydrogen.
The earliest
life appeared in such
planets towards the end of the "Pre-First-Epoch," and
beyond some simple
microbes or
prions and other "pre-life," some higher-order life
appeared. These
were basically simple
lifeforms, colonies of cells that formed a sheet that floated in the upper
levels of the
atmosphere. Some might have moved into space to
produce "space
amoebas" (in Steve-
Trek, no form of life ever developed a biological warp drive, the
rules I use simply don't
allow it, so don't look for any "warp whales").

> An
Unknown Race
creates/activates/discovers, the "Guardian of

fall around this artifact/entity.
The first epoch of life appeared 6
billion years
ago. By this time, approximately
five percent of the galaxy in the
habitable zone
had conditions were sufficent
heavier elements had appeared to
develop rocky,
Earth-like worlds. The primal
chemistry of life appeared on these planets,
although in many cases, this life
did not amount to much and
persisted as microbes,
or at best algae, until the
star heated up enough to boil off the
oceans.
Only on a small number of these
planets did evolution proceed to sentient
forms. Very, very few artifacts built
by these early races survived, although the
Guardian of Forever is one of them.
Structures built on any planets
other than those
around red dwarfs would be
destroyed as the stars themselves
moved off the
main sequence, became red
giants and then white
dwarfs. Because most
warp-capable life in this Epoch
was alone in its region of space, they had a
tendency to form far-flung empires
(or so it is believed, based on very skimpy
evidence).
Notes: no Steve-Trek
references to any
structures from the First Epoch except
for the Guardian, but there is always future
potential.
The galaxy does not have life
throughout, but only
in a ring from roughly 20,000
to 40,000 light years from the
centre.
Regions beyond that are too light in the
heavy elements to form suitable
planets, although
some First-Epoch or pre-First-
Epoch life may exist there (story
ideas!).
Regions towards the centre have too
much radiation to allow life to
advance.

the vast empires built up by the

decimated the other planets with
potential for developing sentient
life in the
restricted zones where life appeared. Resources
were not sufficient to sustain these

box and loaded on a transport as the Slavers close in on the
Ticup home world. The Ticup see this as a gift to
future generations.> End of
the second Galactic
Epoch.
The Second Epoch lasted from 3 billiion to 1
billion years ago, and consisted of three
generations. Little is
known of the first
generation, although scattered artifacts have
been found. The second
generation, lasting
from 1.5 to 1.2 billion years ago, saw the
rise of the Slaver
Empire. Some believe that
the lifeforms that became the Bajoran
wormhole aliens were corporeal in the first
generation, and that the end of the first
generation was marked with the
construction of the
wormhole network.
By the start of the Second Epoch,
approximately
thirty percent of the galaxy in the
inhabitable zone have conditions
suitable for
life,
although these regions are generally
centered around open clusters of like-aged
stars. Where suitable planets existed,
life did arise, but on average,
only one sentient,
warp-capable civilization appeared in
each of these locales.
These races found the
other planets in the immediate area
to have primitive life only, and were
terraformed. In some cases, powerful empires
were built up. At the
beginning of the
second
generation, 1.5 billion years ago, a
race appeared and built the
transwarp conduits as
a
means to move readily about the
galaxy. This unknown
race was the first of
the galaxy-wide empires, although they
had to subjugate very few
races. Once this
race departed, the Slavers moved in and
took control. They also
established a
galaxy-wide empire, enslaving more races. They
enhanced the transwarp conduits
and became what
many regarded as the most
technologically-advanced race that ever
existed. They also were the first to be able
to replicate hypermatter in
quantity, and some
believe that ultimately, all hypermatter
of higher order than dilithium
inthe galaxy was created by them-and the best
dilithium
was also created by the
Slavers. The Slavers
often stole technology created by
the client races and added it to
their own. The
race was violent, and saw nothing of
wiping out entire worlds when there were
revolts. The Slavers eventually conquered
prewarp civilizations, and were so
worried about
losing their dominant place that they
began to annihiliate life on a
planet even before
it achieved any kind of sentience.
1.2 billion years ago, the Second
Generation came
to an end when the Ticups revolted.
This was one of the most advanced
races under the
Slavers, and they had developed some
of the Slaver
technology. They also
developed
technology that would disrupt the transwarp
conduits that the Slavers relied
upon to move
personnel and ships around (Slaver population
at this time was 100 trillion, the
largest number
of any one race in galactic history). With
the transwarp conduits down,
revolts broke out on
many planets, and the Slavers were driven
from these worlds. Once
the empire started
to
collapse, it went down fairly quickly, but the
destruction that followed doomed many of the
worlds.
The Slavers, the Ticups and the other
civilizations
from the Second Generation left artifacts.
These races were obsessed with the
idea of leaving
momentos that would exist forever,
and so built what became known as the Slaver
stasis
boxes, which were scattered about
the galaxy. By current
times, very few of
these boxes remain to be found. Most of the
planets inhabited by races from
this period are no
longer inhabitable as their suns have
heated up, but some artifacts
remain.
Average number of warp-capable
lifeforms at any
given time (galaxy-wide): 50-100
The Third Generation of the Second
Epoch was very
short, lasting from 1.1 to 1 billion years,
and at the end of this period, about fourty
percent
of the inhabitable sections of the galaxy
was suitable for life.
The one dominant race
to appear in this period was the Progenitors,
the first truly human form of
life. They
acquired knowledge from the Slavers and the Ticups
and were able to re-establish the transwarp
conduit
network, although they did not expand
or enhance it. In fact,
the network was
degrading (because the galaxy is not a static
structure). The central
location of the
Progenitors has not been established, although it is
believed that explorers will
recognize it when
they
see it. This race of beings expanded
throughout the galaxy, taking
advantage of the
decline in life at the end of the Epoch to establish
a presence throughout the galaxy
by colonization
rather than conquest. The Progenitors
were well aware of the history of
the Slavers and
the Ticups, and decided that their own
statement of galactic immortality
would be to
identify promising planets throughout the
galaxy, including the homeworlds
of all the known
humanoid races, and seed those planets
with DNA so that life would evolve towards
humanoid
norms (basically, upright stance, two legs,
two arms, the head on top, despite
a variety of
lifeforms from which this evolved). To guide and
control the evolution, the
Progenitors created the
Preservers, a kind of hive mind-artificial-
viral-parasitical lifeform that
would persist
intermittently on the various planets, guiding life
along the Progenitor game
plan. In time,
virtually all Class-M planets would evolve towards
humanoid life, and non-humanoid
life would arise
primarily on non-class-M planets. By 1
billion years ago, the transwarp
conduits had
degraded to the point of uselessness, and
many Progenitor groups were
isolated. These
died out as the planets became uninhabitable,
and the beings died out, although
some second and
third generation races persisted into

B.C. The Third Epoch The !rzzz arise. This insect hive
mind never learns the secret of warp drive, but great hive ships are
sent out into the void at sub light speed to seek what can be
found.
The life of the individual is meaningless. The !rzzz encounter
another
group, the Tzenn, a reptile race that does have FTL drives. They
engage in a centuries long war of genocide that neither will
win. A third race the Metrons is occasionally caught up
in this drawn out battle. It gives them a wariness
against neighbors.
The Second Interm lasted from 1
billion to 600
million years ago. Because the conduit network
fell into disrepair and knowledge
of it was lost,
the races that did appear in this period were
confined to small regions of
space. The era
of galaxy-wide empires was over. This was also
the last period of significant non-humanoid
life. The Metrons appeared in this
period.
The Third Epoch started 600
million years ago and
continues through the present time. Six
generations are recognized,
although the latter
ones could be considered localized. The
first generation actually covers most of te
period,
from 600 million to 150 million years ago.
Second and third-genertion
civilizations from the
Metrons find and rehabiliate the transwarp
conduits, but only twenty percent
of the original
system remains functional. Where the hubs
were located where conditions for life were
suitable, powerful interstellar political entities
appeared. The First
Generation was marked by
large-scale civilizations located around
the hubs, and the conflicts that
resulted from
these groups encountering each other. All of these
major groups were
humanoid. The Preservers
also had their programming modified (or maybe
it evolved) so that they began to
remove samples
of
civilizations from various planets before
that civilization would be
destroyed either by
another, or the planet itself would be destroyed.
Approximately eighty percent of
the inhabitable
sections of the galaxy had conditions suitable for
life. The Third Epoch
has also been called

are believed to begin opperations about this time. The
Preservers seed various planets with carbon-based, predominately
humanoid, life. They take a special interest in the
peoples of Earth (having also transplanted members of the
dinosaur family, saving them from extinction) and throughout the
centuries establish duplicate "Earths" populated by
relocated Humans or humanoids. Some of these species
are genetically altered and unique societies are formed, many of
which are computer-dominated, while others are
given extended life-spans or some such outstanding
abilities. Native American Indians and 13th Century
Germans are two such examples of races transplanted from Earth.
The former group will be seeded on the planet
Amerind (Miramanee's world) and the latter on a planet
deep within a deadly stellar cluster.
The latter sounds like something
from one of the
Trek novels. In Steve-Trek,
the Preservers also transplated a Sumerian
group.

reasons. They are a Third Epoch, second generation
people.> The Iconiaons make
their first appearances They are called "Demons
of Light and Darkness" by those that remember
them. They are typlified by adaptable computer
technology and an intersteller transporter system, parts of which
still work
in the 24th century of Earth.
I believe this is far too early for the
Iconians.
The Third Generation lasted from
50 million to 20
million years ago. The transwarp
conduits had fallen completely out
of use, so the
races that arose and the
political groups they formed were
localized.
Some of their edifices remain,
and some of the groups at the tail
end of this
generation have left sufficient
remains that their planets are
archaeological
sites. At the same time, with
the number of warp-capable species
increasing,
planets are increasingly being
reused. A planet might
have had three or
four
or more habitations by different
racial groups.
The original race of the
Trendorians discovered
the
wormhole network and established
colonies at each of the terminal
regions.
Many artificats have been found at these
planets. The Preservers
continue to have
their programming/mental abiliites evolve,
and absorb and adapt the
pre-Trendorian language
into the Preserver Code, a method
developed to allow species
arriving on separate
worlds to communicate each other
once contact had been
made. The predecessor
race to the El Aurians discover
the transwarp conduits and make
about five percent
of the original system useful
again. They establish a
powerful presence in
a region of space about 10,000 light years
from Earth. Descendent
groups, one of which
becomes the actual El Aurians, form
at the transwarp nodes.

groups becomes Species One, the

make a paradise of

anti gravity cities that float in the clouds of the gas
giants. What they will not do is develop warp theory or
travel. The Gifted never leave their home
system.
Garry-Trek again? They're not in
Steve-Trek.
c. 5,000,000 B.C. The gifted
sensing that their race is
nearly run throw the bulk of their resources into building a
seedship to spread life throughout the galaxy. The
Gifted have never met another race, but they still have hope they
can either reach them or make them. The seedship
carries the histories of The Gifted, and holds places for the
records of others. It's primary function is to drop the
seeds of life onto near life worlds. The Gifted
carefully plot the seedship's course to swing through as many
stars like their own as they can. In the course of it's
travels the seedship will seed a dozen worlds and pick up the
records of 137 other races.
The Fourth Generation lasted from
18 million to 5

technology, was located
on a planet in the Small
Magellanic Cloud. A race
that exploited this
technology developed something
of an empire, occupying roughly
one-third of the
galaxy. However, too many
races were in space for any truly large
empire. When this race, the Qiso, fell,
the fifth generation
ended.

>c. 905,000 B.C. The Horvernal developed the
first known HE warp
drive system. This system requires a sentient mind to
oversee its functions. However the Horvernal do not
have anything close to the computer technology for sentient
systems. Instead they use cyborgs. Rip the
brain out of the body and attach it to a machine and make it run
your matter/antimatter plant type cyborgs. They also
use these disembodied brains for other computing
chores. The Horvernal think that Ane, with their high
lobe and overriding rational superego were just the ticket for
their cyborgs. The Ane are bright, and non technical.
Why herding them into breeding camps to make computers of them
was just the ticket.> The
Ane didn't see it that way. The Horvernal do manage to drive
the Ane from one world making it
untenantable for them and were looking for another until, with
the aid of allies, the Ane came back and contact the brains
running the power plants. The brains shocked back to free
will, yet screaming in agony from their ripped away bodies, took
their own vengeance. The Horvernal
fleet was destroyed by universal containment failure.
Incidentally, so
was the Horvernal home world as they used the brain controlled
power plants as their primary power source. A thousand
matter/antimatter plants detonating at once. Horvernal
was taken out of the Class M category. What few Horvernal
that were not at home never recovered and
the race died out. The Ane learned a lesson in
unintended consequences
they will never forget.> Ane
retain the basics of the HE warp system, but consider it too
awful to use until they encounter sentient computer
systems.750,000 B.C. The Builders, a dying race of
great technological ability query the Ane on how to assure
themselves a future. In exchange for the answer, to
build a replacement that will learn to be a true race, they build
the El-Nanth Rosette of six class M planets for the Ane.
> With the aid of the
Builders the Ane establish 7 all Ane worlds around the Galaxy,
the popluations drawn from the existing coloneies. 2 of
these worlds will later be lost.>c. 600,000 B.C.
The T'kon Empire ends in the supernova death of their home
star. The breakdown of the Empire will take another 1000
years. By the age of the Federation, some of their
outposts are still running on autromatic.
The Sixth Generation of the Third
Epoch started
600,000 years ago and continues
to the present day. It
is marked by the rise
of several large-scale groups in
the Alpha Quadrant (or more
particularily, Known
Space). The first of these
were the predecesor group to the
Orions They
appeared around 600,000 years ago
and controlled most of the
space. They
created a variety of genetically modified
subservient races, including a
"green" slave race
and a "brown" warrior race and
a "gray" administrator
and science race. In
time, the brown race became the Vegans,
the gray race the "true"
Orions, the greens
remained slaves and the original race
died out. The First
Orion Empire flourished
about 600,000 years ago, and they
were supplanted by the Tkon
Empire. Unlike
most other empires, the Tkon used
client races to administer and control their
empire, and they did not from much in
the way of colonies, basically just
outposts.
The Tkon extensively modified their
own star system to create
inhabitable planets, and
attempted to replace their aging
star with a new one.
That failed, and the
star became a nova, destroying life in the
system. The heart of the
Tkon Empire
destroyed, the client races rose up and
destroyed the rest of the
empire. Some ruins
at Tkon XI and scattered outposts
remain.
A sequence of other races
followed, including the
Second Orion Empire (run by the
grays, considered by them to be
the true Orion
Empire) which flourished 300,000
years ago. The Iconians
peaked 200,000 years
ago, developing their gateways,
a sort of zero-displacement
subspace conduits, and
used those to establish an
empire, which, like the others,
collapsed because
of revolts. The El Aurian groups
established the Second Empire,
from which true El
Aurians came. The Kroosians
followed, dominating space upto
35,000 years ago,
when they were destroyed.
The Vegans had their moment in the
sun, before
they
too collapsed. After the
Vegan Tyranny, space around Earth remained
unorganized until the Federation
came along. Elsewhere,
the Trendorians,
around 100,000, controlled the wormhole
network and set up colonies at the terminal
points. Their ruins have been found.
The homeworld is in the Delta
Quadrant. The
Preservers have done their most
extensive work in resettling
groups and spreading
their Preserver Code around.
Races started to appear on the
Ringworld, planted
there by the Preservers.

>c. 550,000 B.C. The Rishan race encounters the
Ane. The
Rishans are not pleased with Ane design. Feeling, it is
assumed, that sentient life requires hands the Rishans
restructure the entire population of the encountered world as
bipeds. The mass polymorph drives many Ane
insane and the shortly die reducing the population by
80%. The remaining 20% crawl up from the ruinous
experience and proceed to build a technical society.
The Rishans consider the experiment a success. The All, and
it's new bipedal members, have another name for it. Ane
will avoid Rishans like the plague. Nothing of the
Rishan story will ever be recorded except that they
exist. > Aneilogs, as they
will later be dubbed will explore space in their region settling
two colonies. One will fail due
to incomplete survey methods, the second will be wiped out by
another Rishian mistake.>c. 500,000 B.C.
"Sargon's Race" destroys themselves at the cusp of
their advance to a metaphysical state. The survivors
lock their essences into a cave in the depths of their shattered
world. Only three will survive to be
found.> The beginning of the
End for the Exo III civilization. Highly
advanced
in many sciences, apparently star travel was not one of
them.> The first flower of
Bajorian Civilization.>c. 250,000 B.C The
Talosain War destroys the surface of Talos 4 as a habitable
planet, the Talsoains retreat beneath the ground and begin
their long decay.>c. 100,000 B.C.
First modern
Homo sapiens in South Africa.>c. 85,000 B.C. The
last contact with the Rishan race by any known
civilization. The Rishians develop and leave a number
of races to guard their "stuff" and are not heard from
again. The impression given is they expect to be
back.>c. 70,000 B.C. Neanderthal man (use of
fire and advanced tools).>c. 35,000 B.C.
Neanderthal man replaced by later groups of Homo sapiens
(i.e., Cro-Magnon man, etc.).>c. 18,000
B.C. The End of the
Cro
Magon era on Earth. > Ane
arrive on Earth as passengers
on a Preserver ship. The Local Humans are to a good
part telepathic and possess a racial memory. The Ane
decide that the humans are an interesting subject and decide to
establish a study colony. Shortly there after conflict
breaks out between the local Humans over what, or rather who, is
food. After a few brief scuffles, the Ane convince the
Woman Ansisi that they are people also. The Covenant is
made and the people take the name Ansisi as their
own.The
last step is the founding of the Federation. At the present time,
the sheer number
of races out there make it impossible for
large-scale empires to be built, while alliances
of different races have become increasingly
common. Expanding races are finding that
many resources have been mined out
of planets, and
archaeologists are finding that
some planets have been occupied
three or more
times. Ruins are extensive but rarely
yield new technology.
About the only race
that was expanding rapidly were the Borg,
but their extreme reliance on the transwarp
conduits has been their weaknesses. The
network has been attacked,
severely blunting the
advance of the Borg.
Who knows what the future will
hold? Some
speculate that if the Borg succeed and
assimilate the galaxy, that will
bring the Third
Epoch to an end. We'll just have to
wait and see.
There it is. Other than
a story, this has to
be my longest posting to trekcreative.
