| subject: | Using BitchX as a door |
Hi. I am interested in giving my BBS users access to IRC. I've looked at various alternatives to giving access to Telnet but I think that using Cygwin/BitchX may be the best alternative. Unfortunately I am not sure if there are any ways to temporarly access the cloned UNIX shell in cygwin (bash). Basically, for all you DOS users out there I'm wanting to make sure that users can't shell to DOS from BitchX. Now, I should be able to run BitchX using the cygwin UNIX emulator and routing it through the DOORWAY 2.31 program. If BitchX does in fact allow for shelling-to-DOS / going to BASH what would you suggest as an alternative IRC client for BBSs (I'd want one that supports DOOR.SYS, DOOR32.SYS, or DORINFO1.DEF as I'm using an EleBBS software package). Further, if there are any programmers out there that find that there is a way to get to BASH from BitchX, additional code to be added to the BitchX source would be appreciated as this could be added to the BitchX source tree. Ie. source code that would allow for an option to be passed to BitchX that would disable using BASH, making the program more appropriate as a BBS door. Thanks for your suggestions and comments and help.
