subject: [C] IMPORTANT MESSAGE -- change of mailing list + moderator election

From: "Torfs Tom"

Everybody,

It looks like the Snippets C mailing list is now fully operational with
two-way gating to/from the Fido C_Echo. Since the gating of the Yahoo
C_Echo group has been down for several weeks now (due to my moving), there
seems to be not much point in keeping that group running considering there
is a good alternative. Therefore I will soon be shutting down the Yahoo
C_Echo group. All subscribers are recommended to subscribe to the new
mailing list (can be done from http://c.snippets.org). An added advantage
(besides much better gating facilities) is that you will be rid of Yahoo
ads as well.

My new situation also means I will not be able to monitor the C_Echo on a
continuous basis, and I will also be giving up my Fidonet address (which
for years has been running as private node 2:292/516 over a TCP/IP link).
This of course calls for a C_Echo moderator election.

Besides candidates we also need a neutral third party to organize the
election and gather the votes. Preferrably this person would have access to
both Fidonet and Internet (for practical reasons). I don't qualify myself
because of both the accessibility (no Fido) and the neutrality
requirements.

If there is more than one candidate moderator, the organizing person should
set up an election timetable, and a method of gathering votes (preferrably
together with a method - such as a secret password - by which people can
verify that their votes have been properly counted).

Considering the new situation with the C_Echo mailing list
gating, candidates' attitude towards this should be either:

(a) willingness to cooperate with the mailing list moderator and gateway
operator(s) to let the process run smoothly or
(b) wanting to stop the C_Echo gating and return to an isolated C_Echo and
mailing list

These intentions should be made clear before the election, so that people
can vote keeping this important issue in mind.

The newly elected moderator will receive the Echolist password as well as
the most recent copy of the echo rules from me.

greetings,
Tom
