RT POLLOCK spoke thusly to: DICK ROEBELT
RP> DR> And when someone breaks the law but applying their fist to
RP> DR> your face, do you stand there and take it or do you assume a
RP> DR> defensive posture?
RP>PERSONAL, physical _defense_ is one thing: malicious use of a fax
RP>machine to extract a perceived "toll" of another - in effect, a
RP>"vigilante action" - does not quite figure-in to the same equation
RP>as _defense_.
Only in your mind.
What is the difference whether someone is physically assaulting you
or stealing your wallet or stealing your time and fax paper? Each is
a "crime" and must be dealt with immediately.
RP>Let's use another scenario:
RP>You witness a bank robbery...and you're unarmed. You're not in a
RP>car, but you're not exactly surrounded by a hoard of other people
RP>either. Others _may_ have seen the same that you saw. Whaddya do :
RP> 1.) Rush right into the bank, tackle the armed bandit
RP> that fired his weapon, and slap him to his senses ?
RP> 2.) Get to the nearest telephone just as quietly as
RP> you can so that the armed bandit _doesn't_ try
RP> emptying his weapon in your direction, and call
RP> the cops ?
RP> 3.) Find the nearest cop and tell him what you saw...
RP> and then let him handle the situation as his
RP> training would allow him ?
RP> 4.) Ignore what you saw, and continue on to wherever
RP> you were going in the first place, rationalising
RP> that `someone else can get involved' ?
Poor scenario as I detest bankers and banks as much as I do used
car salesmen and lawyers...each of which could disappear from the face
of the earth tomorrow and I would not care nor miss them at all.
