JD>EP> "Save him! Got to save him!" Hathcock suddenly thought. And
JD>EP>without thinking of his own life, he took the young officer by his
JD>EP>flaming clothes and hurled him off the side of the burning vehicle. As
JD>EP>he looked at the tangled bodies of the other Marines, who had been
hole
JD>EP>and well only a second ago, he saw their slow, groggy motion among the
JD>EP>flames and instinctively began hurling them off too.
JD>Ernie, I apaligize. When i first heard of this, I assumed that It had
JD>some thing to do with his sniping skills, and as a pacifist, I could
JD>not in good concience support that.
Actually, I think the bravest thing he ever did was to go after
that NV General; because he didn't expect to survive. He took
the mission because he knew if he didn't, his best friend would
be offered the job; or one of his men. But you're right; they
don't give the MOH for that kind of bravery. EP
JD>now that I understand that this was for other reasons, I can support
JD>it. I shall contact my reps this week

Thanks, Joe; it really is a totally legit effort. I can't
imagine how Carlos (while his own flesh was burning) could keep
his mind clear enough to save those other men. Had he simply
turned away and jumped clear, he would probably have escaped any
serious injury; but those seven men would almost certainly have
died. THEY think he deserves the MOH; and I agree. He suffered
third degree burns over most of his body; and those burns were
deep. Ernie P.
