I live in an area blessed with water.  Of course it comes from clouds. I
have always just been able to thoroughly flush between grits.  The tooth
brush is one of my tools.  Some swear by the wax, but for me putting
something on that will hold grit is counter intuitive.  AS LONG AS YOUR
TOOL ISN'T SHEDDING!

Sharp edges can be a problem with scratching, but with care, should not be 
a problem.
