Thanks for all the replies concerning my question about using a CB antenna as
a scanner antenna. I can't possibly reply to all the messages I've received,
so I'm taking this opportunity to thank you all at once.
As those of you who've been following my messages probably realized, the
reason I asked is that I was already doing it. :-)
Scanner reception of the CB band was, of course, improved. In fact, it was
so much better that I started getting the itch to transmit again, after 20
years of being out of it. I'm currently doing Radio Shack the same way with
CB radios as I did them with scanners.
Reception of VHF is actually better than what I was getting with my all-band
magnetic mount. I haven't decided about UHF yet. 800+ MHz seems about the
same. Of course, I still don't have a signal meter, so I'm going by clarity,
volume, how far I can turn the squelch up and still hear the signal, etc as
indications of improved reception.
Thanks again for all the responses!
