I too had an email connection via netmail here,  but that's about to end, 
after a lot of years.  My "connection" was thanks to a friend who
happened to run a unix box at home.

I'm having a bit of trouble conceptualizing how point software *could* be.

Scripted http?  That's a new one on me.  I too prefer to snag stuff
completely if I can,  to deal with here offline.  It's just more convenient
sometimes.
