I don't have a problem with damp litter, either. Of course, we change the
box completely once a week. For me it is worth it to have a clean smelling
house and happy kitties.
Personally I never composted the cat waste, but possibly with the pine stuff
it is a different situation. Of course, when I lived in the country, the
cats did their own "composting" in the garden with no suggestion whatsoever.
All that nice, loose, tilled soil....
