Hi Krishna Gans!
19-Mar-97 20:59:00, Krishna Gans tapped feverishly away
and wrote to Stephen Haffly Subject: OpenDos and Geoworks Ensemble
SH>> Anyway, I have been working with OpenDos (freeware release of
SH>> Novell Dos 7 for those who haven't heard of it. It is available
 SH>> from

Two versions are available from Caldera. One is called OpenDOS Lite and
the other just OpenDOS. The Lite version omits the Personal Netware and
the backup up and virus programs which Novell included under licence
from Fifth Generation Systems. The full version included NWDraw (which
I don't remember being in Novell DOS 7.0) and the NetWars game has been
improved. Caldera are planning to make ViewMAX from DR DOS 6.0 available
also. I sent them an email suggesting that we Ensemble fanatics might
welcome the return of TaskMAX with the copy and paste facility, but,
naturally, have not had a reply.
SH>> Other than this, Geoworks Ensemble seems to run very well with
SH>> OpenDos. I have tried to push things as much as possible to stress
I had some EMM386.EXE errors and found it more stable if I ran HIMEM.SYS
and EMM386.EXE from PC DOS 7.0. This memory manager will not support
multi-tasking but did support task-switching in and out of Windows
(launching Windows apps from Ensemble desktop and closing Windows when
finished with the app) with remarkable stability. I used 1024 x 768 x
256 colours in both Windows and Ensemble.
Regards
Peter Campbell
