Gee Matt,
If I were to agree with your broad sweeping generalization, how
could I explain the fact that this collection of business people have
cared enough to get involved? How could I explain the support that
business people demonstrated by participating in the education summit
last March? How could I explain the dedication and interest of the
business people that I interact with on our Chamber of Commerce
Education Committee (Workforce Development subcommittee)? I suppose
it's all a clever ruse, perpetrated to dupe unsuspecting parents and
gullable educators into thinking that there are people who actually
give a damn...how silly of me to not recognize corporate America's
insidious plot to undermine the US Educational system. ugh.
No need to reply to this post, we appear to have differing perspectives
on the sincerity of business people to take an interest in education. I
am optimistic and believe, on the whole, people are good and do the
"right things" (whatever they are). You appear to take a more cynical
approach towards business people. I am sure we are both justified to
some degree in our respective opinions. For the sake of generations of
children to come, I only hope your perceptions miss the mark.
