Sorry to blow away a fantasy, but crappy OEM car systems and department store 
(lack of) quality stereos are really more important as targets of broadcast 
and retailed audio product than good quality systems.  One of the challenges 
of professional producing is to optimize product for such crap, while making 
it sound tolerable on better systems.  
The latest craze or innovation also rarely matters as much as the installed 
product base from the last ten plus years.
