| subject: | ATM Woohoo - time to polish |
To: "ATM" Reply-To: "Scott Berfield" Finally made it all the way through 9 Micron on my 12+" BVC blank with no scratches or other visible flaws. WOOT! The surface has an amazingly smooth satin texture - very neat - and reflects strongly when looked at from a shallow angle. The 15 and 9 went very quickly. I ended up doing a number of extra wets of 9 micron and let them work longer than normal to try to break down the grit more finely. No sticking, though the two pieces are clearly VERY closely mated in shape with good contact and if I shifted things incorrectly there was a definite boost in the adhesion of the two discs. I examined the entire surface with an eyepiece with the barrel removed since my jeweler's loupe was no longer strong enough to really show any detail and found no pits or scratches. My f-ratio seems to be right around 4.55 or so - close enough for garage work I think. Tonight I pour the pitch lap and I aim to be able to do a preliminary Ronchi test this weekend to test for the sphere. Wish me luck. \ -sb ----------------------------------- They always say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself. -Andy Warhol --- BBBS/NT v4.00 MP* Origin: Email Gate (1:379/1.100) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/1 633/267 |
