subject: Hafler Model 500 Amp

Hello Dennis,
Yes, I can happily report that I have replaced my twin Carver TFM-35s
in my main stereo channels with the old Hafler Model 500 I bought at the
garage sale, and couldn't be happier!
To be fair though, I must say that I replaced my old standard issue
Monster Cable speaker wires and my Carver Pre-Amp Tuner with the new Carver
Pre-amp/Tuner all at the same time so I cannot say what changed what, except
the speaker cables. Those I installed first and tested against a couple
others in a rather unscientific test (but enough to more than convince me
that there was a difference).
I tried four pre-amp/Tuners and ended up buying another Carver. I
wanted to get an on-board Pro Logic processor and eleminate the video
switching unit (JVC) the old Carver required. My fear was that in going to an
onboard Pro Logic unit I would loose the musicality of the old Carver, which
Carver does a first rate job of. Sure enough. The others I tried did an
exceptional job of Home Theater, but not so good with straight up 2 channel
stereo music....my first love. I couldn't afford a Lexicon or anything in
that price range, so I ended up bringing home another Carver....and love it.
I will miss the Sonic Hologram feature, as the new unit doesn't have it. But
I am trying to find an external unit via the Internet now.
The Hafler is just simply amazing! It has all the power anyone could
want and then some. My concern about the fan being to noisey was completely
unfounded and it is very efficient in cooling the unit...even in heavy use.
What is wrong with yours? Is there somewhere locally you can have it
epaired?
How long have you had it?
Cheers, John
