it is most likely one of only a couple of things...

1. the printer's usb was unplugged and replugged... maybe into a different
usb port... the drivers have to reload to build the attachment to the new
port in the registry tree... if the printer is moved to a third and fourth
usb port, the same thing will happen... once it is done, though, that's
generally it...

2. the registry in the usb section has been corrupted or a key for this
unit was removed at some point...

3. look at the hardware manager and see if anything is showing up in there
with the yellow exclamation mark...

that's all i can think of at this time...
