I've gotten a lucky break. Yesterday I was doing a friend
a favor, doing a talk at her college computer class, and afterwards her
husband came by. We started talking about computers/hobbies and it turns
out he has a vaccum chamber at work and he's even coated mirrors before for
the boy scouts, with over coating! He even has a machine shop and full
electronics shop as well. (motorised scope here I come!)
He's offered to help me coat my 12.5" mirror but he's only
ever done little 3" one before. My only other mirror I sent off to be
coated, and I know only a little about the process.
Here's my question. He used a "gun" method to coat the smaller
mirrors but can do the evap/boat systems I've seen in other ATM's systems.
Which system is is better for mirrors?
