| subject: | IP Address Changes-Why? |
Usually this XP MCE SP3 pc gets an IP Address of 192.168.1.100 and the Wallwatcher and Getlog programs work just fine. The other day the IP Address changed to 192.168.1.101 and Wallwatcher and Getlog hasn't wanted to work since. I have had this problem before and it was usually because I left the Cat-5 cable on the Vista pc connected and had turned the Vista pc on first, and it grabs the Dot One Hundred IP Address and when I turned on the XP pc later it gets a different IP Address. So I thought I fixed that by always making sure the Cat-5 wire to the Vista pc isn't connected before I turn the XP pc on. I have a BEFSX41 router that is connected to the DSL Modem and the XP pc, and I have been turning on the DSL Modem before turning on the router, then waiting 5 minutes for the LEDs to settle down before turning on the XP pc. I have been wandering through XP Help and Support pages to see if there was a way to always make the XP pc use the DOT One Hundred IP Address but all I could find was that I could fix the IP Address but Not To Do It because it was recommended to keep the DNS setting set to Automatic on the page I read about how to fix the IP Address.
