| subject: | Best Trek Series |
> I've been doing a poll on the best trek movie, how > about one on the best trek > series. Rate all four series from #1(best) to > #4(worst). Here's my ranking: > 1. TOS > 2. TNG > 3. VOY > 4. DSN > I will then give four points for a #1 rating, three > for a #2, two for a #3, > and one for a #4. Send in the votes! > - Pedit Ver 2.5 > --- ProBoard v2.16 [Reg] > (1:370/50) 1) a tie between Star Trek the original series and Star Trek : the Next Generation while Gene Roddenberry was alive. 4) a tie between Star Trek : the Next Generation after Gene Roddenberry died, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager. I believe that there has been a lot more potential with the later two series that keeps remaining untapped for some strange reason. They are both very good ideas in concept, but no one has been able to tap into whatever it is that made the first two series so very good. It has nothing to do with the race or gender of the captains or anything else for that matter. In some ways, the original series shall always be my favorite of the four, because of the warmth generated by the characters and very sincere respect they had for each other and the way they would always be more than willing to lay down their lives and carriers for each other. You had this to some extent on Next Gen, but it hasn't really been present in DSN or Voyager. No matter whether one likes Shatner's acting or not (I tend to like it myself), one can not deny the warmth he put into the character during the 1960's t.v. series and the way the character always esteemed his crew. He was an example of a great man - the kind of leader that no one can question why those of his crew followed him and continued to stick with him instead of furthering their own carriers in a lot of cases. Also, the main difference between the kind of relationship that Spock and McCoy had with each other compared to that of Quark and Odo is like the difference between day and night. Anyone with any common sense knows that Spock and McCoy never really hated or dispised one another like Odo and Quark seem to do, but rather had a very deep, yet unspoken of affection for each other. Spock and McCoy bantering was more akin to that of brothers and sibling rivalry than that of enemies. Though the story line of DSN can get quite interesting at times and the same goes for Voyager.
