Hi, Mark...
ML>they're probably also crapware aka scamware... leave them alone...
ML>seriously...
No kidding.
ML>i gave you my address above ;)
Well, to make a long story short, after downloading what looked like a
replacement driver from Intel, it crashed XP. The reboot would not let
me use XP, as it said "XP wasn't activated", and it would NOT let me
activate it...either from safe mode, command prompt, or regular logon.
So, I did a FRESH INSTALL of Windows XP. While I had to reinstall all
of the Windows related items, the non-Windows data stayed on the hard
drive. Plus, the system seems to be running much faster now.
I might have picked up some malware somewhere. But, I don't think that
any virus scanner is going to catch everything...as some detections may
end up being "false positives". Several years ago, one anti-virus
program said the datafiles for the "Freshwater Fishing Simulator" door
were malware...go figure.
