-=> Quoting Barry Blackford to Brendon Thompson <=- BT> Maybe they have QSYed to somewhere else? Thanks Norm, I was getting BT> concerned. Good to see you still holding the fort up there, Barry. BB> Prehaps so...., me? only just Brendon, nice to see you are still with BB> us tho.. I try - I seem to be succeeding (said cautiously). I'm pleased to say my health is good, and the family is fine. Alas, work is getting sillier. My company has decreed that all lowly staff have to attend "ethics" training, and the lowly staff are rather bemused... This is the company who's CEO "shares pleasantries" with junior patrol staff when stopped, to prevent his girlfriend from being breath-tested. -which currently has a deputy CEO and a District Commander on bail for the crime of "attempting to pervert Justice" (7 years imprisonment) after forcing a Superintendent to plead guilty to frauds he didn't commit or else lose his superannuation. (The Court of Appeal has now quashed those convictions because of the intimidation) -where a "District Complaints Manager" (the man in charge of investigating staff accused of breaches of ethics) remains in position on that job while he is investigated for attempting to pervert Justice (getting his friend in the Wellington Bureau to make his traffic ticket "go away") The investigation took a year before they concluded he was bad and stupid but not criminal, and he stayed in charge of complaints against staff. -where a "District Traffic Manager" recently got his boss in Wellington to "waive" the ticket he got for blowing a red light on his bicycle. -where a Superintendent accepts a cheque for $25,000 in sponsorship for his son's rugby club, and then orders his Team Policing Unit not to raid hotels run by the sponsor. -where management people are continually wined, dined and feted by business people who wish to keep on their right side, and who line up in queues at Christmas time to bring presents of alcohol to the bosses. etc., etc., etc. ... and the purpose of this compulsory ethics training?? To hammer into the staff that management consider it "unethical" for the few front-line staff working shifts to accept cheap food from MacDonalds, who offer a discount to all the emergency services. Boggle, boggle, boggle. (sigh) Brendon ~~~ ReneWave v2.00+ --- xMail 1.00* Origin: Murphy's BBS 64 3 3519020 Christchurch N.Z.
