*** Quoting Alan Wagner from a message to Martin Bishop ***
AW> When I mention my childhood escapades with the telephone company, the
AW> warez hamsters' mouths drop wide open...
AW> My age old question is: What's the point?
Two observations:
1) Everyone who is against software piracy - for some reason - has some
way-cool, elusive past that involves phreaking & hacking. Of course, anyone
truly into the hp scene would have the intelligence to realize that cracking
is
an integral part of that entire world. Granted, a lot of kids into "warez"
these days are mindless idiots - that's a function of net-mainstreaming. The
elite of the wares community, though, are older, well-established and damn
good
at what they do.
2) All those childhood nights spent dialing 900 numbers - I mean, phreaking -
must weigh heavily on your conscience. How can you steal from the phone
company? I mean, whether it was using a PBX that wasn't yours or using a code
or a diverter or whatever.. don't you feel so bad that you stole 20 cents
from
the phone company? Remember: that's WRONG!
