You're preaching to the choir here. I'm a dyed in the wool embedded systems guy,
currently working with an old Motorola 68332 chip. Based on anecdotal
evidence from search engine hits, it appears that embedded systems work and
OS drivers & kernels are the last bastions of hard-core C programming
(although it does appear that DSP chips have breathed a bit of new life
into C).
