Amen, Brother Ken! And to everything else you said in that message to Daniel
Lynes. I'm not at the point you are in commuting, etc., but my view is
similar. I'd love to be able to commute to work on it, but the distance and
route make it a little too risky. I do use mine for runs to the Stop-N-Rob,
and for lots of similar errands. Many times, I can get there quicker than in
a car! That kind of use for bicycles is what I consider 'serious'.
I get so tired of the elitist attitudes of some "cyclists"! If you don't
have the latest double-throw-down goodies on your bike, or the hottest new
Campy gruppo, you ain't squat to them. I take personal gratification in the
fact that I can keep up with them on my $300 Nishiki road bike, with its
Biopace crank, or even my ol' heavy 20-year-old touring bike. I'm not into
flash and show-off. I just like to get there, and have a good time doing it.
I even got hold of an old Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub that I'm thinking about
putting on my ol' cheap cruiser, or the SWB recumbent that I'm building. I
don't need very many gears here in the Houston area, needless to say. BTW,
where are you. I notice your origin line says "Texas Phoenix".
